Sterling McCall (he/him)7th-9th Grade Counselor

Hello everyone! My name is Sterling McCall and I was born and raised in Española, New Mexico. As a former public school student and first-generation college graduate, I have experienced firsthand what opportunities and impacts that having an education can provide. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Counseling an Educational Psychology at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. I also received a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at New Mexico State University.I moved to Denver, Colorado in 2016 where I worked as an Outpatient Mental Health Counselor for youth and their families in the Denver metro area through a nonprofit organization, Griffith Centers for Children. I obtained a school counseling credential by participating in an endorsement program with the University of Colorado Denver. My approach to counseling students is student-centered and solution focused. I am passionate about working with underserved students and their families to help them reach their desired goals and overcome barriers.

For fun, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my pet dog, Shaq. I also love listening to techno, hip-hop, dance, and pop music. Some of my favorite video games to play include Pokémon, Mario, and League of Legends. Some personal goals I have while working at Walsenburg Jr/Sr High are to help create a welcoming and inclusive school culture, aid students in recognizing their individual potential, and continue to learn and grow as a professional school counselor. I look forward to assisting students throughout their academic, career, and social/ emotional journey while working here at Walsenburg Jr. Sr. High!

Ashley Schrauth, LMSW (she/her)

    10th - 12th grade Counselor

Hello! I am Ashley Schrauth. I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and have relocated to several large cities such as Chicago, Austin, and Denver in my adventures into social work and school counseling until I landed in Walsenburg, Colorado. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Western New Mexico University.  I currently am a Licensed Social Work (LSW) and am in the process of attaining my licensure to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My main focus in my education and training was centered around working with young people and the school social work practice. My education and training are also based on the ethics and standards set in place by the National Association of Social Work (NASW), and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and I tend to take a Solutions-Focused and Strengths-Based School Counseling approach and use many motivational interviewing techniques when working with the students. I have been certified in Level One Solution-Focused therapy and continue to pursue different approaches and methods in social work and counseling to further my practice.

In my free time, I love hiking, camping, eating new foods, and traveling around the US and beyond.  I love working on my yard in the summer and enjoying the leaves in the fall time. I currently run an animal welfare organization to promote spay and neuter services within our community and volunteer/foster dogs with other animal rescue organizations in my free time. I love animals, especially dogs. I tend to spend a lot of time going on adventures with my 3 dogs, multiple foster dogs, friends, and family.

My biggest goals at Walsenburg Jr. Sr. High are to help students achieve their potential by meeting them where they are at and helping them push the boundaries to see how much they can accomplish - individually and together! I am very excited and proud to have been a part of the Walsenburg Jr. Sr. High team since 2019 and only foresee good things to continue to come!
